So its CWG everywhere
Even this word looks like a big devil which Is responsible for Delhi Jams, Electricity cut of , Water Scarcity, Road Diversions and of coarse Price inflation who can forget this but let see the other part of the coin.
In this addition of my blog I would like to flash light on all the promises and efforts which Indian Government gave to get the honour of hosting Ninteenth Common Wealth games in India.
Bidding Arena
There were 2 bidders for the 2010 CWG one was Delhi (India) and the other was Hamilton Ontorio (Canada) . The polh held in November 2003 at CWG Federation in Jamica . India won bid by a margin of 46 votes and India won second round by promising to give US$ 100,000 to each participating countries …..Believe it or not but it is true….. Successful completion of 2003 Afro-Asian Games also help India to grab the deal.
Costs
The total Budget estimated to host the CWG games is US$ 1.6 billion excluding infrastructure development in city like construction, maintainance etc (not to forget opening of Terminal 3 in IGI).And this makes the most expensive CWG ever defeating Melbourne (Australia) which was approx US$1.1 billion.
Transportation System
1. Delhi proposed a four lane, 2.2 km underground stretch from Lodhi Road to trans-Yamuna, linking the Games Village to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and reducing travelling time between the Village and the Stadium by six minutes.
2. Plans were made to make inner circle and outer circle signal free , a delight for commuter who uses these roads.
3. Nine corridors were being identified as High Capacity bus systems.
4. Delhi metro had to be extended till gurgaon and Noida (which is now operational to an extent). The total distance which metro will cover was estimated of 420 KM making it one of the longest networks of in world.
5. IGI needs to modernized and Terminal 3 need to increase its travelers capacity to more than 37 million passengers in a year. A runway needs to construct which will serve for take off and landing of over 75 flights an hr and it will be 4400 meters long (Asia’s Longest Runway). The Baton will reach Delhi on 3rd October 2010. The Baton was designed by Michael Foley. The Baton is a triangular in shape made up of Aluminum twisted in a helix shape and than coated with coloured with coloured soil s collected from all regions of India. And this is the first styling of a Queen’s Baton. A jewel encrusted box is used to keep the Queen’s message, which was laser-engraved onto a miniature 18 carat gold leaf – representative of the ancient Indian ‘patras. The Queen’s baton is ergonomically contoured for ease of use. It is 664 millimetres high, 34 millimetres wide at the base, and 86 millimetres wide at the top and weighs 1,900 grams.
Also The Queen’s baton has a number of technological features including:
